We are sad to announce the passing of FOPH member Don Gelaude on September 25, 2021. Don was the husband to Diane Gelaude and father of Marlene Gelaude-Shattuck and grandfather of Jesse Shattuck and Hannah Reschke, all of whom have traveled to Haiti on mission trips and are pillars of our organization.
Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Gelaude family.

Thanks to all who donated in order to help repair the truck of Fr. Charles Elano, pastor of St. Anne’s parish Trouin, Haiti. He was in a terrible auto accident on his way to Jacmel on December 30, 2020, This road is nothing but extremely dangerous hairpin curves up down the mountainside. Father was taken to the hospital in Jacmel and stayed a short time, and was back in Trouin a couple days later. But his truck was greatly demolished.
A vehicle is very important to the parish and is used not only for daily errands and normal parish purposes, but for countless trips to visit the 10 satellite chapels, transport the sick, and transporting building supplies for our work mission, etc.

This spring, FOPH worked with Food for the Poor which partnered with The Twinning Program, to offer a dollar match for our donations, and then purchased rice and beans for the total amount for St. Anne’s parish in Trouin. We donated $1,000, so the match totaled $2,000, and after months of waiting, we gained word that the food did arrive! Due to the recent chaos in Haiti, the program could not deliver to Trouin directly, so Father picked it up from the FFTP distribution center in Jacmel. Given the violence and dangerous conditions of traveling these roads, we are even more grateful for safe arrival of this precious cargo.

June 2020:
FOPH donated $2,000.00 to the Raising Haiti Foundation. These funds were used to purchase hand washing stations and masks and to provide education regarding Covid-19 to the Trouin area.
Also, in conjunction with the Nativity Church in Burke, VA, and Food for the Poor, our $2,000 donation was matched in order to provide $4,000 worth of food to St. Anne's Parish in Trouin. The food has been received. Fr. Charles is in charge of distribution and said the Trouin community is very happy.
We continue researching ways that FOPH can significantly increase our assistance to our brothers and sisters in the Trouin community during this worldwide pandemic.
Bishop Glandas Marie Erick Toussaint became bishop of Jacmel on Dec. 8, 2018. His visits to St. Anne's in Trouin are a rare and a very special event. The large church in Trouin was severely cracked during the earthquake of 2010 and was abandoned until 2018 when collaborated efforts, headed by Fr. Charles, began. The renovations now complete, Bishop Toussaint came to bless the church and hold confirmation this past February 2021.
St. Anne's Church in Trouin recently underwent some renovations. Click below to see some photos of the building renovation work when it was in progress.
